ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Conditioning Contractors of America Educational Institute (ACCA-EI) Standards Task Team (STT) has announced the initiation of development of BSR/ACCA 15 OBD-201x, “HVACR Equipment On-Board Diagnostics Protocol” as a new industry standard.
This proposed standard will detail on-board diagnostics and associated error codes to assist HVACR equipment installers/technicians with quality installations, problem solving, and improved customer service.
The standard is expected to help reduce installation faults, thereby leading to reductions in warranty exposure (for contractors, distributors, and OEMs) as well as help ensure that equipment performs as designed. The standard will address uniform communication protocols for HVACR equipment by defining (a) common sets of error codes/terminology; (b) communication ports/access; (c) communication protocols for diagnostics; and (d) diagnostic tools/apps (e.g., code readers) that report fault information.
Anyone wishing to submit comments, or interested in being considered for the development committee, should email standards-sec@acca.org.
