Thirty-six states lost construction jobs in 2010 as the industry
shrank by 93,000 employees nationally, reports the Associated General
Contractors of America.
Sales of newly built, single-family homes rose 17.5 percent to a
seasonally adjusted annual rate of 329,000 units in December, according to the
U.S. Commerce Department.
The Associated General Contractors of America
said it was pleased that President Barack Obama called for infrastructure
improvements in his Jan. 25 State of the Union address.
The
$858 billion package, which extended tax cuts already in place for all
Americans, also added additional tax breaks designed to stimulate the nation’s
still-fragile economy.
The program allows industry suppliers, manufacturers
and others to demonstrate “extraordinary commitment” to the ACCA through
year-round financial and related support, association officials said.
