EDEN, N.C. - Weil-McLain, a unit of SPX Corp., has announced the grand opening of its new manufacturing plant and customer training facility located here. The company also announced that it will expand the Eden operation and expects to create approximately 35 additional jobs beyond those announced in July 2004.

Weil-McLain, a leading supplier of residential and commercial boilers and related components for hydronic heating systems, currently employs approximately 114 full-time employees and over 100 seasonal workers at the Eden plant. The planned addition of sheet metal fabrication will create the additional jobs, 11 of which have already been added.

On hand to commemorate the grand opening were Thomas J. Riordan, chief operating officer of SPX, and Sanford R. Jordan, commerce director of business recruitment for the state of North Carolina. State Representative Nelson Cole and Eden Mayor Phil Price also addressed the gathering.

"SPX is pleased that Weil-McLain has chosen North Carolina as the home for its newest facility," said Riordan to a crowd of customers, suppliers, employees, and state and local government officials. "SPX has a strong linkage with North Carolina, which is the home of our corporate headquarters and where we employ in excess of 1,140 people."

"In addition to this new world-class manufacturing plant, we have also invested more than $1.5 million in on-site training facilities that will be extensively utilized by our customers."
