The employee, said to be from Holts Summit, Mo., also wounded as many as five at the plant. Later, he is reported to have been spotted by a police officer in the city, and after exchanging gunfire, the suspect is said to have killed himself.

Two died at the scene the evening of July 1. The third victim died at a local-area hospital.

Officials say that the single suspect, said to be a man in his 20s with no history of disciplinary problems, was the only one involved in the shootings.

David B. Rayburn, president and chief executive officer of Modine Manufacturing Company, released the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened and are grieving the loss of our fellow Modine employees at Jefferson City. Modine’s focus at this point is on supporting our employees and their families through this very tragic event. We are highly concerned about those that were injured and our hearts go out to the families of those we lost.

"Modine has suspended operations at the plant to ensure our employees and their families have the necessary support during this period. We are making arrangements to ensure that our employees have full access to counseling and all resources of Modine."

The Jefferson City plant manufactures radiators for heavy-duty equipment.
