MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has issued the second edition of CSA B214, Installation Code for Hydronic Heating Systems. It supersedes the previous edition published in 2001.
The code sets out the minimum provisions for the installation, extension, alteration, and renewal of hydronic heating systems. It applies to open and closed hydronic heating systems including: hydronic space heating; radiant heating (wall, floor, ceiling); convectors; fan coils; combo systems; indirect-fired domestic water heating; pool and spa heating; snow melt systems; and other auxiliary systems.
CSA anticipates that this version will be referenced in the next edition of the National Building Code. According to the CSA, the previous edition was written more as a “best-practice guide” and is therefore not suitable for reference in the Building Code. The new edition focuses on safety requirements and can be used by installers, designers, and local jurisdictions.
