In this class, the DuraTite Systems Polypropylene Trunk Line Take Off took off and achieved a high enough score to receive the gold in the fourth annual Dealer Design Awards. Fans received the next two highest positions. The silver winner is the FG Series Inline Centrifugal Fans from Fantech Inc. The Broan® Ultra Silent™ Humidity Sensing Fan Series, by Broan-NuTone LLC, earned the bronze.
GOLD WINNER
The Polypropylene Trunk Line Take Off, by DuraTite Systems, is available with or without dampers in 6-, 7-, and 8-inch sizes. The dampers can be adjusted with an external handle or screwdriver slot adjustment at five different 10-degree increments. The take off was designed to fit all applications and can be used with duct board, sheet metal, and flex duct. Because the take off is plastic, it has no sharp edges, is dentproof, lightweight, less conductive, and rustproof.
The take off features four one-way locking Clip Zips and a double-sided adhesive gasket, which can eliminate the need for extra sealant at the trunk line connection. The take off design and external fastening system gives installers the ability to pre-install flex duct prior to getting into the attic or crawl space. To install, peel the gasket release paper and pull the four Clip Zips.
Multiple judges agreed that the polypropylene trunk line take off is a fine unit. One judge said, “I like the ease of installation.” Another mentioned that it is a “nice product,” and exclaimed, “I would love to try it out!”
SILVER WINNER
Fantech’s FG Series Inline Centrifugal Fans have galvanized steel housings, which meet code requirements for both residential and commercial applications, such as residential kitchens and baths, and in businesses that want to exhaust contaminants or boost air conditioning from one area to another in buildings that house businesses such as hair salons, nail salons, veterinary clinics, and schools.According to Kathie Perry, director of marketing at Fantech, the fans are manufactured using a new automated production process that results in the first truly airtight inline fan in the industry. With cfm levels of 135-940, the 12 different models are available with duct sizes of 4-12 inches. The fans can be installed anywhere and in any position along a duct run. All models are Air Movement and Control Association International Inc. tested for air, Home Ventilating Institute-certified, and UL-listed; many models are Energy Star® qualified.
One judge summed it up for all the other judges by saying “Nice fan.”
BRONZE WINNER
Broan® UltraSilent™ Humidity Sensing Fan Series, by Broan-NuTone LLC, features Senaire® technology, which senses increases in moisture at the ceiling, where it’s most prevalent, and automatically exhausts the moisture, turning off once the room’s normal humidity level is reached. The fans turn on automatically when either there is a rapid to moderate (user adjustable) increase in humidity or when the humidity level is above a user-adjustable set point. Two of the three models - QTXE110S and QTXE110SFLT - are Energy Star qualified, which was a boon to one judge who remarked, “A plus that it is Energy Star-rated.”
The QTXE110SFLT Model also is Title 24-compliant.
