LEWISTON, Maine - E. Robert O’Connor Jr. died Aug. 21, 2007,
shortly after arriving at the Central Maine Medical Center. O’Connor was born
in Dublin, Ireland, March 14, 1962. His heating company, Patriot Heating,
Auburn, Maine, performed a great deal of charitable work, such as installing a
heating system for The Root Cellar, a safe house for immigrants in need.
Before opening his own company, O’Connor worked for
local contractor Paul Dupuis for many years. He also was a member of the
National Oil Service Manager Association, Pine Tree Chapter, and served on many
boards for the City of Auburn. His interests included fishing, wildlife, and
restoring old cars and motorcycles. He is remembered for having “a wide circle
of lifelong friends whom he treasured very much and who will miss him
terribly,” and for being dedicated to his four pets: Leila and Derby (dogs) and
Merlin and Smoky (cats). O’Connor was preceded in death by his parents, Mary
Lou (Edelbach) and Edward R. O’Connor. He is survived by his wife, Wendy
(Haynes) O’Connor; stepmother, Marcella Mary (McDonald) O’Connor; sister, Mary
Joan O’Connor; and mother- and father-in-law, Leo and Theresa Haynes.
