NEW YORK - A year after Ferris State University (FSU) and HVAC Excellence agreed to work together to address green education, Doug Zentz, a professor at the Big Rapids, Mich., school, updated members of the trade press on the extent of the progress of the working agreement during a press conference held at the 2008 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo).
Zentz noted that the first section of the program resulting from the partnership is “Green Mechanical Awareness,” which he described as a pilot tested at the United Association’s (UA’s) annual instructors’ workshop and through workforce development in Louisiana.
It was also agreed upon to develop additional technical training modules covering an array of green mechanical issues. The first completed technical module, “Combustion Analysis,” covers the maximization of furnace and boiler energy efficiency.
At the same news conference, Uponor (formally known as Wirsbo) announced that it has joined the Green Mechanical Council (GMC). Fieldpiece announced its partnership as well. The manufacturer of instruments for the HVACR industry set up special pricing for its new HVAC Guide tester, introduced at the AHR Expo.
