CALGARY - Jack Hasick, 84, passed away Nov. 7, 2008,
surrounded by family at the Southwood Hospice. During his 50-plus-year career
in the HVACR industry, Hasick was involved with many organizations, such as the
Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), where he became international
president. He also was a leading fundraiser for the SAIT Polytechnic -
Mechanical Trades Program.
In addition to his business network, Hasick volunteered for
Heart to Heart, a cardiac-care support group, and was a member of Probus, an
offshoot of the Rotary Club that advocates “service above self.” He could
always be found helping out on various projects and committees at the churches
he supported over the years.
“Jack had many names,” recalled Brian Baker, president of
Custom Vac Ltd., Winnipeg, Manitoba: “Gentle Jack, Cadillac Jack, Mr.
President, etc. One thing for certain is that the HVACR industry lost one of
its very last few remaining senior statesmen who always put people first, and
whose foundation of values lay with education and training. Jack is already
missed by so many of us.”
He is survived by his wife Nancy; son Murray (Teresa) and
their son Colin; and son Gordon (Janet Major) and their children Walter, Aidan,
and Sasha.
Those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to
SAIT Polytechnic through the “Jack Hasick Scholarship Award”; 1301 16th Ave.
