KLEIN, Texas - Klein Independent School District (KISD) estimates that it will save approximately $150,000 per year in energy costs following the installation of Uniphy network thermostats, a web-enabled intelligent network thermostat created by Proliphix. The district did a 12-month field trial with the thermostats before deciding to deploy them district wide. The estimated annual savings are based on the results of the field trial, which showed over a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption over the 12 months.
KISD installed 239 Proliphix thermostats in portable classrooms and stand-alone gyms to reduce energy costs and to address the requirements of Senate Bill 300 that requires state agencies to purchase more efficient equipment to reduce energy consumption.
“Proliphix has allowed the KISD to enjoy real savings in energy consumption,” said Robert Robertson, associate superintendent for facilities and school services. “Beyond the benefits of reduced energy and greenhouse emissions, our students will reap the benefits of cost savings as we redirect the savings for classroom instruction.”
The new system allows KISD to remotely monitor and program the thermostats in these buildings, greatly improving the previous locally controlled thermostats and allowing for remote troubleshooting.
“We at Proliphix Inc. are excited by the tremendous results Klein ISD expects in energy and cost savings using our energy management system,” said Walter Dray, president of Proliphix. “Not only is this an excellent example to other school districts of how technology can reduce energy consumption, Klein ISD’s achievement also illustrates an equally important benefit in its ability to improve education by using the money it saved with Proliphix.”
