The Eon 42 variable-speed, constant-torque motor is designed for direct-drive blower applications such as fan coils, kitchen ventilators, air curtains, and unit heaters/coolers. According to the manufacturer, the motor saves up to 56 percent of the electricity consumed by the motor. It offers simple installation along with a wide range of horsepowers (1/15, 1/8, and ¼ hp), voltages, and mechanical features. The reliability of the motor has improved with a fully potted single control board, additional transient protection (6kV), improved I/O protection and state-of-the-art electronic components. The motor also features the BlakBox® technology, an onboard memory that allows OEMs and contractors to monitor real-time performance and provide insight into the operation of the motor to maintain peak efficiency. A homeowner education kit titled “Make Yourself Comfortable” also is available. It includes a brochure and DVD that provides homeowners with basic information about their homes’ HVAC systems, as well as answers to common questions related to IAQ. The kit, which goes hand-in-hand with its consumer website www.genteqcomfort.com, was designed to be a tool that HVAC contractors can discuss with or leave with their customers.
The introductory course on motors and variable-speed drives will give participants a better understanding of motors and the theory behind how they work.
