DALLAS — The 2012 Joseph S. Groh Foundation Golf Tournament, held in May at Prestonwood Country Club in Dallas, hosted a record 96 golfers, many from the HVAC industry.
The event, which raised a reported $51,000 in donations, was sponsored by industry members including Pottorff, Ruskin Co., Air Systems Components Inc., Hill Phoenix, and Lennox Industries.
In conjunction with the construction trades industry, the foundation was created in 2009 to serve as a clearinghouse of information for those with spinal cord injuries, to offer hiring services for the disabled, and to provide financial assistance to construction trades industry workers and their families who have suffered a life-altering injury or illness.
The foundation’s director of operations, Joe Groh, is a victim of a spinal cord injury and has devoted his life to helping others, including the most recent foundation recipient, Travis Vaughn. Vaughn, an electrician for the John Moore Service Co. in Houston, suffered spinal cord injuries in a car accident in January. He was recently gifted a handicapped-accessible van, courtesy of the foundation.
