Course Description: The course is designed to train technicians to systematically apply procedures to analyze dual-fuel equipment operation and comfort conditions. The participant applies troubleshooting procedures to determine if there is a problem with a dual-fuel equipment installation without removal of panels. Topics covered include the elements of proper combustion and the effects of improper combustion, the different efficiency ratings of furnaces and the types of combustion in different furnaces, the different modes of operation and sequence of operation for a dual-fuel system, and the categories of vented appliances.

Also, the course addresses sizing a gas piping system; properly sizing a vent, properly leak testing a gas piping system, how safety devices operate on a furnace, calculating the gas consumption and the input and output capacity of a furnace, understanding the factors affecting the conditioned space, the different methods of calculating airflow, and the total and sensible heat formulas.
