MALTA, N.Y. — Building Performance Institute (BPI) announced its certification renewal policy has been amended to allow individuals holding multifamily certifications to earn continuing education units (CEU) toward written exams.
Individuals who hold active Multifamily Building Operator of Multifamily Building Analyst certifications can bypass the written exam by accruing a certain number of CEUs during a three-year period.
BPI’s certification renewal policy applies only to those certified professionals who maintain continuous certification, although BPI is allowing for a one-time exception for multifamily building professionals whose certifications have expired no more than six months before the policy is enacted (dating back to Oct. 18, 2012). All eligible individuals whose certification expires after that date and before June 1 have until June 1 to apply for certification renewal under these new rules.
After June 1, all individuals who wish to renew under this policy must do so before their certification expires; otherwise, they must retake the relevant written and field exams for each certification they wish to renew.
Additionally, BPI has updated its CEU policy to expand descriptions of categories of CEU consideration, and the types of activities associated with earning CEUs.
