WAYNE, Mich. — EQ: The Environmental Quality Co. has again partnered with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Mercury Collection Project to facilitate the collection of mercury.
The Great Lakes Mercury Collection Program is providing free mercury collection services to residents and businesses in the state of Michigan. The free program will run through Sept. 30. This is an ongoing effort to collect and properly recycle mercury. EQ will ensure proper recycling methods, which will reduce the amount of mercury from entering the environment.
In 2013, EQ worked with The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Great Lakes Restoration and set up a designated phone number and email address that were specifically designed for all requests received for this program. During this period, EQ received 164 bucket requests and recycled 325 thermometers, 145 thermostats, 520 industrial switches and fuses, and various relay switches and gauges, lab thermometers, manometers, and hydrometers.
Upon request, EQ will send a free collection bucket with a shipping box to your door via common carrier. Each bucket contains easy-to-follow return instructions. Once the bucket is filled with the mercury containing device(s), it can safely be returned in the shipping box to EQ. Interested parties should call or email EQ for a free collection container at 877-960-2025 or email mercurybucket@eqonline.com.
