ARLINGTON, Va. — ACCA, the indoor environment and energy efficiency association, has published an online state advocacy manual to help guide HVAC contractors, as well as local and state contracting organizations, in how to work with elected and appointed officials.

The manual, This Is How You Do It: How to Make a Difference in Your State and Local Governments, has nine sections that detail how contractors can get actively involved in the legislative process in their area. The nine sections are:

• Laws and Regulations Govern the Way You Do Business

• Working with Elected and/or Appointed Officials

• Pursuing State Legislation

• Once Your Bill is Introduced

• Guidelines for Legislative Contact – Make Your Visits Count!

• Working with Coalitions

• Working with the Press

• Hosting Special Events

• Codes Marketing Campaign

“Being involved in your local government is extremely important, because more and more state legislators are passing laws and regulations that directly impact HVACR contractors,” said Charlie McCrudden, ACCA senior vice president of government relations. “Realizing that many contractors want to get involved, but are unsure about how to go about it, we created this guide to help make it easy for them to get their voices heard on topics that affect the way they do business every day.”
