Dwain Eugene Holmgren, 68, of Chesterton, Indiana, died July 15 in Porter Regional Hospital. Holmgren was the Central Advertising Manager of The NEWS until his retirement in 2011. He had initially been hired to start a new catalog product for Business News Publishing in 1984, and soon became involved in advertising sales for both The NEWS and Engineered Systems.
“Dwain Holmgren happens to be one of the people who encouraged me to join the publishing profession,” NEWS publisher Mike Murphy said. “His family certainly knew him much better than all of his many friends, but we mourn his loss none the less. He was truly one of the good guys and was loved by many people around the HVAC industry.”
Holmgren was born Feb. 16, 1946, in Chesterton, Indiana, to Ruth (King) and Owen “Swede” Holmgren.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Nelson, of Valparaiso, Indiana. Also surviving are his two sons Derek of Bloomington, Indiana, and Danen (Katie Sabocik) of Chesterton, Indiana; daughter Kara (Tom Neckopulos) of Greenville, South Carolina.; granddaughter Michelle Holmgren; sister Gwen Genovese (Ken); and niece Kendy Genovese (Stuart Alexander).
Holmgren was a fisherman, hunter, chess player, Boy Scout leader, and cook. He loved soccer, movies, and working with his hands. Holmgren loved his community, friends, and making people laugh. Most dearly, however, he loved his family. He was a true family man.
