DALLAS — Eternal hybrid water heater is providing continuous hot water to a family that was featured on HGTV’s top rated show, Property Brothers. The episode with Eternal premiered on Aug. 20. Property Brothers prohibits names of families and home locations to be released.
The family of six was left out in the cold when it came to hot water. The water heater in the family’s former home, a bulky tank installed in 2005, could not handle the demand for hot water needed for bathing, washing clothes, or cleaning dishes.
“Hot water runs out during bath time. I have to wait to go last,” said the father referring to the previous home. “If we run the dishwasher first, we still need to get everybody bathed. It becomes dicey since we always run out of hot water. The old unit was inefficient. There was absolutely no hot water after the kids’ baths and the dishwasher.” Dad always was the last to bathe and prefers baths to showers. “I had to run the water twice to fill up the bathtub since the hot water would run out. I would fill it up halfway then wait 20 to 30 minutes to finish filling it up,” he added.
After many years of putting up with insufficient hot water, the parents realized it was time to make their lives more convenient and livable. Like most homes, the former house had one dishwasher and one washing machine, but the number of appliances was not enough to cover daily needs. In April, they moved to another home, the one featured on Property Brothers, and increasing the availability of hot water was high on the priority list. The home is 3,500 square feet and has three and a half bathrooms, two washing machines, and two dishwashers. However, the parents got cold feet when they saw the home’s existing water heater, a 40-gallon gas water heater.
“It was a nightmare. The old system was horrific. It wasn’t attached up to code and even the gas line wasn’t secured properly. It had a gas leak that we could smell. It was rusty, leaky, and pretty gross. Took up a lot of space in the basement,” the father described. “The thing looked like it belonged in a museum; it was in bad shape,” he said of the 18-year-old unit.

Even though the family members were ready to enjoy their new appliances, they needed to get a new water heater. The Property Brothers producer chose Eternal to take care of the large family’s needs.
“Wow look at that machine!” said the father when he saw the Eternal GU195S with its stainless steel exterior. The unit features 98 percent efficiency and a stainless steel heat exchanger with built-in two-gallon reserve tank. “Eternal is attached up to the wall so it looks great and takes up less room. This water heater is a gift from heaven. We have a lot of bath time. Eternal’s heat just keeps going. We like to swim; then we all take showers. We have been able to take two showers at the same time. We can take our showers as the dishwasher is running. We don’t have to worry about running out of hot water,” he said.
Hot water is an important part of the father’s life since he is suffering from cancer. “I soak for hours at a time after chemo. Chemo stays in my system for four days. I soak because it helps me get through the rough edges of chemo. I get a hot bath and soak; then I’ll feel a lot better for at least a little while. There’s less stress on your body so I just sit there and soak. I sit in the tub for hours. I would always have problems with kids using up all of the hot water with our old water heater. Now the entire family absolutely can take longer showers,” the father added.
When asked if he would recommend Eternal to a friend, he said, “Yes, it saves space, and you never run out of hot water.”
