FARMINGTON, Mich. — In preparation for the cooling season, Uniweld and Young Supply Co. teamed up to present a flame safety seminar that was open for any HVAC technicians wishing to attend. The registrations for the seminar included new as well as experienced technicians.

The two-hour course was presented by Uniweld sales executive, Matt Foster, who said, “It’s always important to practice proper safety procedures in our industry, and whether you’re a new graduate from a technical school or you have 20-plus years of experience, you will learn something in this class.” The seminar covered the basics of flame safety, proper procedures when using compressed gases and flame tools, and a hands-on brazing clinic that allowed attendees to practice brazing techniques and try out Uniweld’s selection of brazing tips.

One product that was covered was the MTF-5 Cap’n Hook Tip. The Cap’n Hook features a patented hook design with five flames that provide 100 percent wraparound on copper tubing. The even heat distribution eliminates cool spots on the copper and ensures a clean and solid braze, said the company.

Technicians were also able to try out the MTT Flexible Twin Tip and the MTR Mini Rosebud Tip, both part of Uniweld’s Micro 6000® Tip Series. Foster also covered the importance of purging with nitrogen during the brazing process and how this affects the system.
