Extech Instruments has introduced the RD300, a heated diode refrigerant leak detector that pinpoints leaks of all CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigerants with three levels of sensitivity to leaks as small as 0.25 ounce (7 grams) per year. The ergonomic tool also features a built-in LED work light on the probe tip for dimly lit locations.
“Leak detection can be one of the most tedious parts of HVACR diagnostics. The new RD300 makes it easier to quickly find leaks, without waiting for UV dye to travel throughout a system,” said Mike Fox, general manager, Extech Instruments. “And when tracking lines for leaks in dark mechanical rooms, the built-in work light eliminates the need for a separate flashlight, freeing up one hand.”
The RD300 uses an 18-inch flexible gooseneck probe to access leaks in tight locations. Its heated sensor has a fast warm-up cycle. Users can choose low, medium, or high sensitivity, from 0.99 ounce (28 grams) per year to 0.25 ounce (7 grams) per year. The unit’s large, progressive color-coded 9-LED bar-graph provides at-a-glance information on levels being detected. Audible alarms can be muted to avoid disturbing occupants or nearby workers. Battery life is 13 hours.
