PROVO, Utah — Vivint Smart Home, a leading provider of smart home technology, announced that its Vivint Element™ smart thermostat was awarded the Red Dot, an international distinction for high design quality. The international Red Dot jury chose winners from a pool of 5,200 products from 57 nations.

The Vivint Element thermostat is designed to provide a new level of intelligence for temperature control and energy savings by integrating with all door, window, and motion sensors in a Vivint smart home. Because it is integrated into the Vivint Sky smart home platform, the thermostat can determine when the homeowner is at home, away, asleep, or on vacation, and then optimize the temperature to make sure the house is both comfortable and conserving energy.

“We designed Vivint Element to complement the Vivint smart home system and help families stay comfortable, better manage their energy usage, and save money,” said Stephen Boynton, senior industrial designer at Vivint Smart Home. “The interface is optimized for quick interactions with homeowners and their guests. It then dissolves into a soft white face that feels more like home than technology. A minimal design approach and respect for a variety of home interiors allows Vivint Element to blend well with any style.”

The Red Dot Product Design jury consists of 41 experts from around the world including freelance designers, design professors, and journalists. The independent expert panel assesses each entry according to criteria such as degree of innovation, quality, functionality, and ecological compatibility.

“With their performances, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions,” said Dr. Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award.
