LAS VEGAS — HVACR instructors from across North America met in Las Vegas for the 10th annual National HVACR Educators and Trainers Conference. The conference provided them an opportunity to participate in a 12-hour-per-day train-the-trainer boot camp. However, the training is but a piece of the overall conference.
The 2016 conference featured the inaugural Teachers-N-Trainers (TnT) competition, which allowed participants to showcase their skills by completing a series of time-based tasks that were arranged in elimination stages.
Instructors not competing surrounded the competition area to cheer on their fellow instructors and gain some new ideas to incorporate into their training. Jason Obrzut, HVAC Technical Institute, Chicago, took home the first-place title. Other finalists included Lawrence Penar, Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, Illinois; Paulo Perez, HVAC Technical Institute, Chicago; Kerry Davison, Joint Apprentice Refrigeration Training School (JARTS), Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; George Brown, College of the Desert, Palm Desert, California; and Dean Dyatt, Johnstone Supply, Salt Lake City.
