The Department of Energy (DOE) has published a Federal Register notice detailing the effective date and compliance dates for DOE's direct final rule (DFR) pertaining to energy conservation standards for small, large, and very large air-cooled commercial package air conditioning, heating equipment, and commercial warm air furnaces. 81 FR 32628 (May 24, 2016).
DOE has determined that the comments received in response to the direct final rule do not provide a reasonable basis for withdrawing the direct final rule. Therefore, DOE is confirming its adoption of the energy conservation standards established in the direct final rule and announcing the effective date of those standards. The notice also details the relevant compliance dates that apply.

The direct final rule published on January 15, 2016 (81 FR 2420)
became effective on May 16, 2016. Compliance with the amended
standards in this final rule will be required for small, large, and very large
air-cooled commercial package air conditioning and heating equipment
listed in this final rule starting on January 1, 2018, for the first set of
standards and January 1, 2023, for the second set of standards.
