LAS VEGAS — At the AHR Expo, ASHRAE briefed the press on recent updates made to Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Michael Rosenberg and Bing Liu (shown in picture) , both from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the 90.1 committee, provided highlights of the updated standard.
The changes in 90.1-2016 include 121 addenda; major format changes for ease of use; new climate maps aligning with ASHRAE Standard 169; a new performance-based compliance path (Appendix G, which is similar to Energy Cost Budget but more flexible); and significant whole building energy savings.
Compared to 90.1-2013, the updated standard saves 6.8 percent more energy on average for a whole building. The next version of the standard is scheduled to be released in 2019.
