CHICAGO – Go big or go home is certainly the approach SPX Cooling Technologies Inc. took at the AHR Expo this year. The manufacturer announced its new Marley MD Everest counterflow cooling tower during a press conference on Tuesday. The Marley MD Everest Cooling Tower is designed to meet today’s HVAC demands and is suitable for a wide range of applications, delivering over 85 percent more cooling capacity compared with other preassembled counterflow towers.

At 2,500 tons, the MD Everest Cooling Tower is an ideal one-to-one chiller match. The tower can be adapted to varying water quality using a range of fill types. The MD Everest Tower achieves a low drift rate, down to 0.0005 percent of circulating water flow, so less water escapes the tower.

“This year, we’re introducing the counterflow cooling tower,” said Doug Bougher, director, HVAC & Refrigeration Sales, SPX Cooling Technologies Inc. “Our NC Everest is a crossflow, and some customers prefer one to another. The MD Everest’s target is really for2,500 tons, and we’re going to be coming out with larger sizes in the future. Field directed products have been using counterflow cooling towers for a very long time, so we expect this to be a very big hit, especially as you move into large tonnages. You’re looking at large data centers, hospitals, district cooling, university campuses, on top of all your heavy industrial applications.”

To facilitate faster installation and safer assembly processes, the MD Everest Cooling Tower arrives at the site in modules that are pre-constructed in a controlled factory environment. The MD Everest Cooling Tower’s robust structure meets seismic and wind load requirements per ASCE and IBC building codes. Reliable Marley mechanical components include a five-year maintenance-free System 5 Marley Geareducer® gear drive; energy-efficient, low-clog PVC heat exchange fill media; and Motor Outside Airstream (MOA), standard. The MD Everest Tower also includes a five-year mechanical component warranty.

According to Bougher, the company has already sold one of the products, though the company will not officially launch it until next month.

The press conference also included a tour of other SPX products, including the NC Everest, Recold V Tech Adiabatic Cooling System, Marley MBX EZ Pack Fill, MarleyGard™ CD Chemical Delivery System, Marley LW Fluid Cooler, and more. For more information, visit www.spx.com.
