Name: Clint Powers
Title: Manager
Why He’s Tech of the Month: Fresh out of high school, Clint Powers was looking for a career. He knew he wanted to work with his hands rather than in an office environment, so he looked up nearby trade schools. He completed a two-year HVAC certification program at Cypress College in Cypress, California.
Eight years ago, upon moving to Arizona, Powers was hired by Air Control Home Services in Lake Havasu. Now, as a manager, he is responsible for completing residential and commercial maintenance calls as well as Energy Star start-ups. He is highly skilled in single-stage, dual-stage, and variable-speed systems, as well as duct systems.
“The mechanical part of my job, which is working on the different equipment and with new technology — that is my favorite part,” said Powers.
But it’s not just his technical know-how that sets him apart from others — it is his willingness to go above and beyond.
“Clint always goes above and beyond for the customer and for the company,” said Amanda Zink, manager, Air Control Home Services. “Recently, we had a customer come in whose husband had passed away, and she was having difficulty adjusting to taking care of the home; she was a little out of her element. She said that during her air conditioner install, Clint was kind and patient, and he explained everything. As a new widow, she felt very comfortable and trusted him. She couldn’t stop raving about how great he was.”
But it is working for a company that stresses a family-first environment that inspires Powers to go above and beyond every day, and it is why he enjoys working there.
“They [the owners] are good family people who take care of their employees,” he said. “They are always here for me and others.”
Powers loves working in the field, so when asked about his plans for the future, he laughed, contemplating the future possibility of not being on-the-go at all times.
“I guess I will end up in an office position eventually and work less in the field, which is hard to imagine,” he said. “Maybe I’ll move to a position in sales, who knows? But I would also love to be a training instructor.”
Overall, Zink nominated Powers as Tech of the Month because he is an exceptional employee in all aspects of his job.
“I really think his knowledge base and customer service skills are what make him stand out,” she said. “He is so knowledgeable on a wide range of products and systems.”
