WORCESTER, Mass. — The New England Fuel Institute named Sean Cota its new president & CEO effective December 8, 2017.
From his teenage years until his retirement as president in 2011, he worked for his family's full-service heating oil and propane business, Cota & Cota Inc. in Jamaica, Vermont. Cota was a third-generation business-owner.
Since 1990, he has been actively involved in trade associations at the local, state, and national levels. Sean has held the chairmanship or other top leadership post at the New England Fuel Institute (NEFI), the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA), the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA), the Vermont Fuel Dealers' Association (VFDA), and the Commodity Markets Oversight Coalition (CMOC), among others.
A fierce advocate for issues important to heating fuel businesses, Cota has participated in countless meetings at state houses and on Capitol Hill over the years. He testified more than a dozen times before Congress and regulatory agencies and has been interviewed by the local, state, and national news media on a wide range of topics.
"I am passionate about our industry, its constituent businesses, and the hard-working people they employ,” Cota said. “Given the holiday season, I am reminded of my favorite movie, 'It's a Wonderful Life.' The Bailey Savings & Loan improved the lives of those in its community for the better ... That is who we are and why this business is worth fighting for."
