JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JAX Refrigeration Inc., a provider of commercial and industrial refrigeration, HVAC, engineering, and mechanical system solutions, announced it has received three Excellence in Construction Awards from the Florida First Coast Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). The JAX Refrigeration leadership team was recognized along with other award winners on Aug. 24 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville.
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
JAX Refrigeration received Pyramid Awards for its work on Palm Valley Academy, Bahamas Food Service, and Mission Foods.
Palm Valley Academy is a K-8 school in the Nocatee area of St. Johns County in Florida. JAX Refrigeration, through its JAX Mechanical department, self-performed roughly 80 percent or on the project. This scope of work included the installation of two 225-ton air-cooled chillers, 292-ton ice storage capacity, glycol and chilled water piping systems with highly sophisticated digital control systems, and 11 air-handling units, including all associated supply, return, and exhaust ductwork systems. JAX Mechanical worked with Charles Perry Partners Inc. (CPPI) to provide the HVAC systems for the 190,000-square-foot, tilt-panel building. The project spanned two years with a contract value of $4,3 million.
JAX Refrigeration was subcontracted by Sysco to work on the renovation of a production facility for its subsidiary, Bahamas Food Services. Bahamas Food Services is the largest food distributor in the Bahamas, supplying fresh and frozen meats, fresh produce, dairy products, processed foods, beverages, chemicals, and paper. The renovation required JAX Refrigeration to replace an evaporative condenser and remove and reinstall all controls groups serving eight evaporators for the 220,000-square-foot facility. The industrial refrigeration contract spanned three months, from January-March 2018, with a contract value of $1,7 million.
JAX Refrigeration, through its JAX Cool department, worked with Grumma Engineering on the renovation of an existing facility for Mission Foods in Lakeland, Florida. JAX Cool was contracted for the installation of insulated metal panels and door work for a food processing facility, specifically two cooling rooms for packaging tortillas. JAX Cool added new walls and doors to the 5,000-square-foot project. The contract was valued at $300,000 and lasted for roughly one month.
