Taco Comfort Solutions has partnered with Glen Dimplex to develop a complete packaged air-to-water heat pump system for residential heating, cooling, and DHW applications. System M, available later this summer, responds to increasing HVAC electrification trends while providing superior comfort, high efficiency, and ease of installation. Company executives were touting this system, along with other new products, at this year’s AHR Expo.

The Taco/Dimplex air-to-water heat pump system is an integrated heating, cooling, and domestic hot water solution. Once piped to the home’s terminal system, the heat pump provides up to 44,000 BTUh and 3½ tons of cooling. The system is solar PV and smart grid ready.

“What we’re trying to do here is put together a turnkey air-to-water heat pump package,” said Dave Sweet, Taco’s product manager.

The outdoor portion of the heat pump features advanced inverter technology, a variable-speed fan, improved energy efficiency, and quiet operation. The indoor unit contains an integrated hydronic buffer tank, sleek user interface with smartphone app control, and a high-efficiency, dual-ECM pump module.

Taco also announced a new flow-through expansion tank designed to help reduce the environmental conditions necessary for Legionella and other bacteria to flourish. With standard tank volumes ranging from 23 to 528 gallons, the flow-through expansion tank provides precise flow channeling through a patent pending head design. These tanks minimize pressure loss, discourage short-cycling, and are retrofittable to meet ASHRAE Standard 188 on existing designs. Standard working pressure is 125 PSI with options for 150 PSI and higher.

They are NSF/ANSI 61-G certified and are available with a sight glass for failure detection. Taco’s flow-through expansion tanks will be available in the second quarter of 2022.

The Taco FI & CI Series end suction pumps and KV & KS vertical in-line pumps handle a variety of applications, including heating, air conditioning, pressure boosting, cooling water transfer, and water supply applications. The new Taco FI, CI, KV, and KS Series pumps feature standard NEMA-frame motors for easier serviceability and shorter lead times. High-efficiency ECM motors up to 30 horsepower are also available as part of Taco’s Oe (optimized performance) package. Paired with a VFD, Taco’s Oe Package pumps provide increased performance, longer service life, more uptime, and higher reliability.

Taco has redesigned its commercial pump line to exceed 2020 DOE efficiency standards. Mark Chaffee, Taco’s vice president of government affairs and product management, said the company has redesigned all its products to make them more efficient. The process started with pumps and has moved through the entire line.

“We’re really doing our part,” Chaffee said.
