Hardcast now has a water-based coating for HVAC ductwork that has been in contact with smoke and soot. Designed to be applied to duct and insulation that has been exposed to airborne particles from a fire, it can eliminate the need to replace the duct, officials say. It also works with wood, metal, drywall, cement and cinder blocks. The coating is available in white and black in 5-gallon buckets. Using Environmental Protection Agency-registered chemicals, it resists microbial growth, officials say. After drying, a top coat can be applied.
