A U.S. House appropriations subcommittee is suggesting a small cut to Perkins Act funding for fiscal 2008, the Association for Career and Technical Education reported.
The subcommittee, which deals with health and labor issues, recently asked for $1.302 billion in federal funding for 2008, a slight drop from the $1.304 billon given in the 2007 fiscal year. Perkins is the law that pays for trade school education programs.
The association said that while the budget request keeps state grant and technical preparation funding at 2007 levels, money for national programs would be reduced.
ACTE officials say they are lobbying keep funding levels and get $1.7 billion in Perkins funding for the upcoming fiscal year.
