The Air
Conditioning Contractors of America extended its best wishes to Illinois Sen.
Barack Obama on his election as the next U.S. president in a Nov. 20 letter.
In the letter, ACCA President Paul
Stalknecht said that ACCA members could help achieve energy independence and
improve the economy through the creation of so-called green jobs.
Stalknecht
asked the Obama administration to consider several policies that he said would
improve the nation’s chances of achieving these goals. They included: promoting
routine maintenance, which fixes HVAC problems while they are still small and
inexpensive; relaxing HVAC equipment tax-depreciation rules; encouraging
whole-building energy audits; and mandating HVAC system installations are done
properly.
“ACCA
welcomes the opportunity to work with your administration on ways to strengthen
our economy, embrace sustainability for future generations, and maintain
national security through energy independence,” Stalknecht wrote.
