The U.S. Green Building Council has been certified an
organizer of sustainable meetings and events by a British group.
The U.S.
Green Building Council has been certified an organizer of sustainable events,
council officials announced Friday.
The USGBC has
received the BS 8901:2007 certification, the world’s first such sustainability
management system standard for the events industry, USGBC officials said.
Certification is
awarded by a British group.
The USGBC’s
conference and events team organizes more than 100 meetings, including
Greenbuild International and the USGBC Federal Summit.
“At each
Greenbuild, our conferences and events team works closely with our vendors,
host communities, exhibitors and attendees to cut down on natural resource use
and reduce carbon emissions, while gaining feedback about ways to
continuously improve the show,” said Kimberly Lewis, the USGBC’s vice president
of conferences and events. “Certification under the British standard validates
our processing, execution and post-event monitoring and incentivizes us to
continue to transform the global meetings industry.”
This year’s
Greenbuild takes place Nov. 11-13 in Phoenix.
