The group says more than a trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year.

The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association will remind Americans of how much water is wasted annually during “Fix a Leak Week."

The March 14-20 event   is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s  WaterSense program to remind households to inspect plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks.

PHCC member contractors are trained professionals in water conservation,” said association President Frank Maddalon.  “We believe in the goals of Fix A Leak Week – to advise homeowners on how to save money and conserve natural resources. Water leaks are not something people usually think about too much, so an annual reminder like this to the general public is important.”

The average American home with a leak wastes 10,000 gallons of water each year, the PHCC said.
