Building information modeling, code issues and “the cloud” are among the HVAC construction related topics to be discussed during a September conference co-hosted by ASHRAE and a building-performance group.

The 2014 ASHRAE/IBPSA-USA Building Simulation Conference, to be held Sept. 10-12 in Atlanta, merges ASHRAE’s energy modeling HVAC market conference and the International Building Performance Simulation Association's SimBuild conference.

“The conference theme of ‘BIM, BEM (building energy modeling) and SIM (simulated information modeling) — integrated building design and modeling’ focuses on workflow and integration,” said Dennis Knight, conference chairman. “The papers and non-paper presentations selected for the conference address these areas as well as innovations in modeling for the benefit of the energy modeling and building simulation industries.”

Scheduled paper topics include urban modeling, state-of-the-art BIM, new simulation approaches and BIM in the cloud.

Eighty papers are scheduled to be presented, along with an equal number of presentations not attached to a paper.

“Attendees will benefit by networking, by participating in numerous hands-on modeling and simulation presentations, and by seeing current tools available in the marketplace, their applications and workarounds,” Knight said.

Scholarships for students to defray attendance costs are available. The application deadline is July 25. Visit www.ashrae.org/simulation2014 for information.
