ASHRAE’s revisions to its green HVAC building standard are designed to further reduce buildings’ energy consumption and environmental impact, the society says.

The 2014 version of standard No. 189, “Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings,” is now available. Endorsed by the U.S. Green Building Council and the Illuminating Engineering Society, it covers sustainability, water use, energy efficiency and building materials.

It includes 67 changes made since the original green HVAC standard was released in 2011.

“The new standard updates all of its sections to reflect the latest information available to the committee,” said standard committee chairman Andrew Persily. “Compliance with these updated provisions will help further reduce energy and environmental impacts through high performance building design, construction and operation while providing indoor environments that support the activities of building occupants.”
