The Mechanical Contractors Association of America has a new video on how to work smarter — and safer — in small areas.

“Confine the Hazards: Safe Work Practices for Confined Spaces in Construction,” teaches HVAC construction workers and others about how to protect themselves in confined spaces.

New Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules made the video necessary, said Tom Skaggs, the MCAA’s Safety and health Committee chairman and a vice president at Murphy Co.

“OSHA’s new standard on confined spaces in construction changes the way mechanical construction contractors approach confined space safety,” he said, adding that the rule went into effect Aug. 3 and becomes enforceable Oct. 2.

“MCAA requested an extension of the new standard’s original Aug. 3 enforcement date so that we could prepare materials for our members to use in training their employees,” added MCAA Director of Safety and Health Pete Chaney.

The video includes test and training materials.
