Richard Lewis founded Redwood Services in 2020 to be a different type of investor in the residential HVAC and plumbing space. What he chose to do was simple yet profound: designing a creative economic and legal structure that attracted owners with “gas in the tank” to partner with Redwood instead of selling the business without sharing in the upside. This mechanism resulted in owners who originally had no interest in selling would instead join Redwood as a partner.
Redwood quickly scaled to 11 partners across the country, representing $250 million in annual revenue. Lewis has helped create hundreds of new job opportunities across Redwood Partners over the past two years.
Under Lewis’ leadership, Redwood has invested millions of dollars in the launching of technician universities and training and development programs across the country, providing education for young professionals in the industry. By building a Partner Support Center located in East Memphis, Redwood has recruited nationally recognized homes services business coaches from across the United States, as well as finance, accounting, marketing, and human resources talent.
The Redwood Partner Support Center’s mission is to invest in its partners and their brand by investing in training and development for managers and front-line technicians, local recruiters, universities to grow talent in-house, vehicles, facility upgrades, marketing, tuck-in acquisitions, and greenfield expansions.
“My goal is to continue to positively impact the industry by investing in and supporting some of the best operators in the country,” Lewis said. “Today, Redwood has over 1,300 teammates from coast to coast, and my goal is to continue to scale Redwood in a way that can support and enable those teammates through training and development.”
