The AIM Act, which passed in December 2020, will result in an 85% reduction of HFC refrigerant by 2036. The first reduction last year started off with a 10% reduction. Next year, an additional 30% of HFC production will be cut, ultimately causing significant impacts to the HVACR industry. Experts are even predicting that the steep reduction to come could result in the shortage of popular refrigerants such as R-410A and R-134a, as well as a spike in refrigerant prices. All of this could notably affect HVACR contractors, and in order to handle the changes to come, they have to start to prepare now.
