MADISON, Wis. — The S86WMUPR Smart Thermostat from AprilAire has been certified by the federal government’s Energy Star program.

The professional-grade S86WMUPR Wi-Fi smart thermostat offers certified energy savings, is ultra smart, and simple to use, a press release from AprilAire said. It features an intuitive interface designed to surpass the needs of tech-forward homeowners as well as those who are looking for high performance but prefer a set-it-and-forget-it solution, the company said.

According to Energy Star, the average American household spends almost half its annual energy bill on heating and cooling. Energy Star certification affirms through field trials the ability of the AprilAire S86WMUPR to deliver energy savings as promised through optimal management of the heating and cooling equipment. This thermostat can help homeowners save money by customizing a schedule each day, or by setting a consistent schedule over the week. It is paired with fan-circulation mode and special features like a progressive recovery option to ensure proper temperatures for the start of an event and a convenient Heat Blast option to raise the room temperature between 3°F and 5°F when it’s chilly.

“Our customers value smart, simple-to-use solutions that save them money and improve the air quality in their homes. Energy Star certification of the AprilAire S86WMUPR thermostat affirms our team’s commitment to designing more sustainable healthy air solutions,” said Jimmy Pendley, president of AprilAire.

AprilAire’s deep knowledge of residential IAQ is reflected in the thermostat’s ability to add control of whole-home ventilation, dehumidification, or humidification solutions, the company said. This makes it possible for homeowners to turn equipment into a system for creating a healthy home by managing the quality of air circulating inside their homes.

AprilAire also offers wireless sensors, compatible with the AprilAire S86WMUPR, that detect relative humidity and temperature for enhanced control. The AprilAire Z10IDT wireless indoor sensor helps reduce hot or cold spots in the home by averaging temperatures across all installed sensors and can be used to schedule temperature changes in specific parts of the home. The AprilAire Z10ODT wireless outdoor sensor communicates temperature and relative humidity outside the home to the thermostat, which can use the information to control an AprilAire humidifier or fresh air ventilator as well as to configure heat-pump balance points.
