New research shows that extreme wildfires have doubled in both their frequency and intensity over the last 20 years. The research was done in light of increased wildfires across wide portions of the western United States, Canada, Russia, Australia, and more. These fires are particularly troubling not only because of the damage they can do to nearby communities, but also because smoke can notoriously travel great distances, affecting the air quality of people hundreds of miles away. Just a few months ago in May, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and parts of Wisconsin were under air quality alerts because of the extreme Canadian wildfires. All of this to say, HVAC contractors are needed now more than ever. After all, they are the only people who have the tools and services to aid poor indoor air quality (IAQ) resulting from the wildfires. HVAC contractors are already reporting an increased interest in IAQ solutions from their customers due to the wildfires, and that many homeowners don’t even know that there are options out there to help and protect them in these extreme events.
