More and more companies are putting a focus on ESG (or Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. Coupled with the fact that building automation systems can boost heating and cooling efficiency by more than 20%, the time for HVAC contractors to add Building Automation Systems (BAS) offerings to their services, is now. With such ROI, offering and then recommending BAS investments can drive a lot of value for the customer. Plus, many facilities were built before 2000 (an estimated 75% of them) and thus, many of them consist of outdated equipment and controls – systems that aren’t nearly energy efficient as what today’s modern HVAC equipment can offer. So, recommending these upgrades will not only save customers money, but it can also help them to meet their sustainability goals. Brian Meyers, system controls portfolio leader at Trane Commercial, shared some advice for contractors to help their building owners and clients prepare a map of their goals: assess the client’s need, evaluate what BAS solutions would be the best fit for their situation, and then identify the outcomes.
