Cal SMACNA also awarded the Guilfoy Memorial Architectural Sheet Metal Award, which is presented to a company whose project best epitom-izes the quality and craftsmanship of Guilfoy Cornice Works. This year’s recipient was Custom Metal Fabri-cators, Inc. for its project, “Award Wieners” in Disney’s Hollywood Back-lot at the new California Adventure in Anaheim (see photo, left). The project was designed and built using conceptual drawings by Walt Disney Imagineering. CMF fabricated and installed the exterior and interior aluminum and stainless steel components as well as all support framing for the finished materials.
According to Cal SMACNA, the project was ultimately chosen because of the craftsmanship involved in producing the interior corbels, the radiused panels, bullnosed center band detail, and because there were no exposed fasteners.
CMF also won the Guilfoy award in 1999 for the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
