NEW YORK, NY — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently made its weather predictions for the 2001-2002 winter season. NOAA is reporting colder-than-normal temperatures for the U.S., especially in the Great Lakes and Great Plains States, as well as the Northeast and Upper Midwest. Heavy snow is also expected for these areas.

Salomon Smith Barney also released its winter outlook report, which said that the upcoming season will likely rank in the top third of the coldest in U.S. history. The report further predicts that U.S. heating demand will be high, but cites abundant reserves of natural gas and heating oil and concludes that there should be no dramatic price fluctuations in heating oil and natural gas.
