Mr. Blumenthal was the “patriarch” of Radiator Specialty, which was founded in 1924. He also was the cofounder of the Blumenthal Foundation, a nonprofit organization that encourages charity, religious education, and better inter-faith relations.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, and three sons: Alan (chairman of Radiator Specialty), Philip (director of the Blumenthal Foundation), and Samuel (a Charlotte psychologist).
