“The Department of Defense has been using NFPA codes and standards in the design and construction of its facilities for years,” said NFPA president and chief executive officer, James M. Shannon. “The Unified Facilities Criteria continues the military’s use of NFPA documents and will play an important role in the safety of military structures.”
UFC 1-200-01 utilizes three NFPA codes. NFPA 70, National Electrical Code®, is used to protect people and property from the dangers associated with electricity. NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code, mandates that mechanical appliances, equipment, and systems will comply with NFPA 54, which provides requirements for the installation of gas piping, equipment installations, and venting. And NFPA 101, Life Safety Code®, provides provisions to allow for prompt escape in an emergency.
