TAMPA, FL — Joseph B. Whatley, 80, a former president of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), died in Tampa on Jan. 13. He also was owner and president of Whatley Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. for 50 years. He retired in 1990.

He was a national SMACNA president from 1969-70, and was inducted into the association’s College of Fellows in 1981. Mr. Whatley also served as chairman of the Fibrous Glass Duct Manual Committee and the Adhesives and Sealant Committee, and was on the association’s board.

Mr. Whatley is survived by his wife Dorothy, two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
