DALLAS — In a recent article inThe Dallas Morning News, it was reported that hundreds of Texans, who were defrauded by a now out-of-business heating and cooling contractor, will be eligible for free equipment inspections, repair, and contract renegotiations.

According to the Texas attorney general’s office, Fiesta Air Conditioning and Heating Inc. sold thousands of air-conditioning units in Dallas and San Antonio in 1999. Many units did not work because of poor or incomplete installation. Some homes were also damaged. The attorney general’s office estimated the average cost of the equipment and installation at $7,500.

About 760 people in San Antonio and “hundreds more” in Dallas are eligible for repairs under an agreement between the attorney general’s office and Worry Free Service, a financial services company in Kansas City, Mo., who financed Fiesta’s customers.

Consumers must file complaints with the attorney general’s office no later than April 24, 2003 to receive the services. Customers can receive a complaint form by calling 800-252-8011 or by visiting www.oag.state.tx.us.
