PHCC of Southeastern Connecticut members again helped out a neighbor in a big way this month. This time, they installed a new furnace for a local family for free.

The goodwill recipients were a single-income family of six who live in a century-old home with a furnace that was on its last legs. PHCC members say the volunteer efforts are now a tradition, as part of a "Give Back to Society" program.

"We decided we wanted to create a committee," said association president Mark Fernandez. "We called human resource departments in (different) towns to see if someone needs help, and made a list to draw from."

Fernandez said the group hopes to repeat the good deeds two or three times a year.
