Honeywell services include design, project management, customer enrollment, installation, and ongoing system maintenance. The turnkey load-response solution chosen by City Public Service will feature Honeywell thermostats and Cannon Technologies communication modules, hardware, and software. A benefit of a controllable thermostat solution is the customer's ability to adjust the temperature of their home and make other changes remotely through the Web or by phone, which is an advantage over the traditional control switch.
City Public Service is one of the nation's largest municipally owned energy companies providing both natural gas and electric service, and serving more than 600,000 electric customers. It will offer the program to residential customers as part of its portfolio of energy efficiency and peak load management resource planning solutions.
Laura Compton of City Public Service said, "We are focused on implementing the best load management program possible. Honeywell's programmable thermostats will reduce energy consumption and ensure that our customers stay comfortable. Plus, reduced energy production helps protect the environment.
"This is a win-win for City Public Service and its customers. The utility reduces peak demand risks and its customers get new programmable thermostats that provide benefits all year long, which is more than is offered by switch technology," said Kevin McDonough, general manager of Honeywell Utility Solutions. "We view load management programs as part of a well-balanced utility's peak load reduction portfolio and are pleased to be working with Cannon to help City Public Service and its customers."
